Learning the Olympic ropes

VANCOUVER – When NBC News asked me to join the team in Vancouver, I was honored. Now, I’m here and quickly trying to learn the ropes.


Our workspace is incredibly large. Usually I’m huddled in the back of a satellite truck, so anything bigger than a closet would have been great. We’re located in the International Broadcast Center where NBC’s base of operation resembles a small city.

The transmission area is sprawling and the edit rooms are as sophisticated as the ones we have back at 30 Rock. We’re in the same area as NBC Sports, so I’m also meeting a lot of new people from that team. How our engineers pulled all this together, I’ll never know.
